Equal Pay Principle for Posted Workers
“Equal work, equal pay in the same workplace,” is how the French Ministry of Labour summarizes the principle, as reported by Le Parisien. This principle was reaffirmed on July 30, 2020, with the implementation of new provisions concerning posted workers—“employees sent by their company to provide a temporary service in another European Union member state,” as described by La Croix.
The purpose of these measures is to strengthen the protection of the workers concerned and to create fair competition conditions. In practical terms, “a worker posted to France by a foreign company must be remunerated in the same way as an employee performing a similar job for a company established in France.”
Before these changes, the rules only required employers to provide posted workers with the minimum wage applicable in the host country.
